Austin and Gallant: Attack on Al-Asad is a serious escalation from Iran

WORLD, Aug. 06 (YPA) – US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have described the attack on the US base at Al-Asad in Iraq as a “serious escalation” and a demonstration of Iran’s destabilizing role in the region, according to their claims.

In a phone call between the two officials, Austin reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to Israel’s security “in the face of threats from Iran, Hezbollah, and other Iranian-aligned militias.”

During the call, Austin also provided an update on “measures to strengthen the US military posture in the region in light of the escalating situation.”

US officials reported early Tuesday morning that the attack on the Al-Asad airbase in western Iraq resulted in injuries to several American soldiers stationed at the base.
