Saudi Arabia releases 5 fishermen it kidnapped from Yemeni waters
HODEIDA, Aug. 03 (YPA) – Five Yemeni fishermen returned on Saturday to the fishing port in Hodeida province after being detained and tortured in Saudi prisons for more than ten days.
During their reception, the port director, Muhammad Al-Taweel, pointed out that kidnappings of fishermen have increased significantly in the recent period, calling on the international community to bear responsibility for protecting Yemeni fishermen.
The fishermen explained that they were kidnapped by a Saudi forces patrol while they were fishing in Yemeni territorial waters and were taken at gunpoint to prisons.
They stated that they were imprisoned on “Farasan” Island for four days, then transferred to solitary prisons in the Jizan region, and were interrogated under beatings, starvation, and ill-treatment for six days before they were released, and five others were kept inside the prison.
