WORLD, Aug. 02 (YPA) – Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong revealed on Friday the results of a probe into the killing of aid workers in Gaza several months ago.
According to the Palestinian Media Center, the minister stated that a review conducted by the Australian government states that “the Israeli airstrikes that killed international aid workers in Gaza in April were the result of serious operational failures but were not intentional”.
The Israeli airstrikes in April killed seven workers from World Central Kitchen (WCK) staff, including Australian team leader Zomi Frankcom in Gaza. Palestinians and citizens of the United States, Britain and Poland were also among those killed.
The attack on the convoy of aid vehicles had drawn widespread condemnation from the United States and several allies.
The Australian review of the deaths, released on Friday, found serious failures in the procedures followed by Israeli forces, errors in targeting, and mistakes in decision-making.
The Israeli military described the incident as a “grave error that should not have happened.”
“The Australian government will continue to press for full accountability, including any appropriate criminal charges, and we will continue to advocate the views of the Frankcom family and the Australian government to Israel,” Wong said.
“The military advocate general of “Israel” is still to decide on further action,” she added.
