Lebanon files complaint with UN Security Council over Israel’s aggression on Beirut suburb

NEW YORK, Aug. 01 (YPA) – The Permanent Mission of Lebanon in New York sent a complaint to the Security Council and to the Secretary-General of the United Nations against Israel’s recent aggression on the southern suburb of Beirut.

In the complaint, Lebanon stressed that this attack constituted the most dangerous episode, as it constituted a dangerous escalation, as it affected a very crowded residential area, considering that it was a clear and flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, the integrity of its territory and its citizens, and of all United Nations resolutions, including Resolution 1701.

The complaint noted previous warnings about Israel’s intentions to escalate and launch attacks on Lebanon that would drag the entire region into an open war with undesirable consequences.

Lebanon pointed out that the aggression against the southern suburbs and the subsequent aggression against Iran’s capital, Tehran, are additional evidence of “Israel’s” escalatory intentions, at a time when international mediators are working to reach an agreement on a ceasefire and prevent the expansion of the war.

In its complaint, Lebanon renewed its rejection of war and its full commitment to Resolution 1701 in all its aspects, calling for the Security Council’s clear condemnation of this Israeli aggression and obligating “Israel” to stop the escalation and its attacks on Lebanon’s sovereignty, territory, and people.
