“UNRWA”: About 200 agency employees killed in Gaza, and there is no safe place in Strip

GAZA, July 08 (YPA) – The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said on Monday that “about 200 employees of the agency have been killed since the beginning of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.”

“50% of our institutions in Gaza were destroyed, and more than 500 people were killed while they were in our headquarters,” Lazzarini added during a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Affairs Abroad Badr Abdel Ati.

“We face the risk of an entire generation losing education and a better future in the sector,” Lazzarini said, indicating that the majority of Gaza Strip schools were destroyed as a result of the Israeli war.

He stated that “about 250,000 people were displaced from the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, for the sixth or seventh time, and there is no safe place in Gaza.”

Discussions during the conference between the two parties dealt with ways to support the agency’s work and humanitarian relief efforts in the Gaza Strip and the challenges of the humanitarian situation within the Strip.
