SHABWA, Aug. 18 (YPA) – A number of African migrants were injured on Sunday in clashes inside the Mas Camp in Ataq city, the provincial capital of Shabwa, which is under the control of Emirati-backed armed factions.
Sources said that the clashes erupted between groups of migrants inside the camp, with the use of sticks and others such as daggers and knives. Two Ethiopians were injured, one of whom was described as critically injured.
The coasts of Abyan and Shabwa have been become a hotspot for gangs smuggling thousands of African migrants since the beginning of last year, with the complicity of leaders of pro-UAE factions in exchange for exorbitant sums of foreign currency.
Most areas in Shabwa and Abyan are being become dens for the torture of migrants and the extortion of their families.
Organ trafficking gangs are also rampant, according to a video clip was posted by the Abyan Security Director last week.
He described these incidents as a conspiracy against the province, despite the continued daily arrival of hundreds of migrants on Yemen’s southern coast.
The presence of thousands of African migrants may poses a direct threat to local security and stability in Shabwa and Abyan, amid reports that they are being recruited into terrorist groups, amidst continued silence from authorities loyal to the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
