ICC warns against any attempts to impede its decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli officials
THE HAGUE, May 03 (YPA) – The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) considered that threats in response to the court’s decisions may constitute a crime.
In a statement issued Friday, the office called for stopping all attempts to obstruct, intimidate, or influence court officials in the case of pursuing Israeli officials accused of genocide in Gaza.
“The independence and impartiality of the Court are undermined when its members threaten to retaliate against it or its employees,” the statement said.
It considered threatening the Court even without taking action may constitute “a crime against the administration of justice under the Rome Statute.”
“There is interest in our investigation, and we understand any formal and informal concerns,” the statement said.
This comes at a time when members of the US Senate, from both the Republican and Democratic parties, expressed concern about the possibility of issuing arrest warrants against Israeli officials.
