STC fails to stop clashes in Lahj

LAHJ, May 01 (YPA) – Fierce clashes erupted on Wednesday, between tribal militants and a joint campaign of forces funded by Saudi-led coalition in Al-Had district in Lahij governorate, southern Yemen.

Local sources in the directorate reported that the clashes, which broke out between tribal militants led by military leader Ali Yahya Harhara, and the “Security Belt forces” affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), left five people wounded.

The wounded are from the Harhara family, most of the are women and children, in addition to three members of the UAE-backed militias according to preliminary statistics.

They confirmed that the UAE-funded forces heavily fired at the house of the leader Harhara in Wadi Dan area in the district, who refused to surrender himself and withdraw his militants from their positions the area to comply with the demands of the campaign.

The sources clarified that the  STC campaign, led by several leaders from Aden, failed to calm the warring parties and took a stance against Sheikh Harhara, leading to a widespread arrest campaign in Wadi Dan.

This occurred amidst armed tribal mobilization from both sides following the military campaign’s failure to control the situation .

It pointed out that the clashes resumed between the parties despite the significant damage to civilians’ homes due to the exchange of gunfire.
