Several citizens kidnapped during protest rally in Shabwa

SHABWA, March 13 (YPA) – A number of citizens were kidnapped while organizing a protest rally demanding the provision of water in Shabwa province, east of Yemen.

Local sources reported that guards at Al-Awlaki’s house in the city of Ataq, the provincial capital of Shabwa, kidnapped five citizens while they were organizing a protest calling for the provision of water to their homes, and attacked others by beating with batons and rifle butts.
The kidnapped staged rally in front of the house of the UAE-backed governor of Shabwa, Awad Al-Wazir Al-Awlaki.

The sources affirmed that the security guards took the kidnapped to one of the prisons belonging to the UAE-supported “Shabwa Defense” factions and threatened the rest of those present with shooting if they did not leave the area.

The city of Ataq has been witnessed a lack of basic services, including water and sanitation, and has become a costly financial hardship for the people.
