ABYAN, Jan. 11 (YPA) – An angry popular uprising and civil disobedience was organized on Thursday in the city of Zinjibar, the provincial capital of Abyan, south of Yemen, to denounce the poor living conditions and the collapse of basic services.
Thousands of people from Abyan went out in an angry demonstration in front of the local authorities building in the city, chanting slogans demanding to stop levies and end the security chaos and economic collapse.
According to local sources, the angry protesters demanded the payment of their salaries, stressing that their living conditions had reached the point of starvation.
The sources explained that the demonstrators called on local authorities to cut fuel prices, similar to the Islah Party-held city of Marib, indicating that shops in Zinzibar witnessed a widespread strike in solidarity with the popular uprising.
Security chaos, assassinations, looting, and disruption have been expanded after the UAE factions took control of the Abyan districts in August 2022, after the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council waged operation under the pretext of confronting terrorist elements.
