Sanaa reveals Yemeni fishermen get American threats

SANAA, Jan. 02 (YPA) – Sanaa-based Ministry of Fisheries has revealed the Yemeni fishermen got American threats to prevent them from fishing in Yemeni territorial waters.

The Ministry said in a statement on Monday that the American-led coalition to protect Israeli ships in territorial waters is using force and threats through its warships to prevent Yemeni fishermen from exercising their legitimate right to fish, which poses a threat to their lives and their source of livelihood.

“These hostile practices in Yemeni territorial waters represent a flagrant violation of international law and human rights and have disastrous effects on the reality of fishermen, in addition to the security and safety of marine life and the environment,” the statement added.

It called on the international community and human rights organizations to condemn the violations against Yemeni fishermen and take measures to stop them, in a way that guarantees the safety and security of fishermen and enables them to fish and restore their livelihoods threatened by foreign ships.

The Ministry’s statement also called on the international community to support Yemen’s efforts to protect its environment and marine resources.
