WFP: 97% of displaced cannot find food, hunger is increasing in Gaza

GAZA, Dec. 09 (YPA) – The World Food Program (WFP) confirmed on Saturday that hunger is widespread throughout the Gaza Strip, and that people feel great despair in their quest to find food, in light of the fierce war waged by the Israeli occupation state against civilians since the end of the humanitarian truce at the beginning of December.

The program published the results of its monitoring, which showed that between 83% and 97% of displaced families do not find enough food.

In some areas, about 90% of families cannot find food to eat for an entire day and night, and 18% of those families experienced the same conditions for more than 10 days during the past month, according to the “Russia Today” website.

On the other hand, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that most of the patients and staff at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabalia were evacuated on Thursday by the Ministry of Health in Gaza, and that the hospital had largely stopped working and receiving new patients.

The United Nations spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, explained that the intense fighting in the vicinity of the hospital and the scarcity of basic medical supplies, such as water, fuel, and food, are the reasons behind the hospital’s complete halt.

He confirmed that only 14 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals were still operating, even though they were providing limited services, including two small hospitals in the north and 12 in the south, indicating that 80 trucks carrying humanitarian supplies and 69,000 liters of fuel entered Gaza from Egypt yesterday.

Dujarric pointed out that this is much less than the estimated daily average of 170 trucks and 110,000 liters of fuel that entered Gaza during the humanitarian truce between November 24 and 30.
