Macron backs down from previous statements on civilians in Gaza

WORLD, Nov. 13 (YPA) – French President Emmanuel Macron has said he does not hold “Israel” responsible for deliberately harming innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip.

In a phone call on Sunday with his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog, the French president retracted comments he made during an interview with the BBC on Friday, which caused an uproar in Israel.

According to a statement by the Israeli presidency, Macron made it clear that he does not hold “Israel” responsible for deliberately harming innocent civilians in the campaign it leads against Hamas.

Earlier, the French president said that the Israeli occupation bombing has become targeting civilians, women and children, and is illegal, calling on Israel to stop doing so.
