China stresses importance to make efforts to restore peace in Palestinian territories

BEIJIN, Nov. 06 (YPA) – The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Beijing will make more effort to restore peace in the Palestinian territories, as it assumes the presidency of the United Nations Security Council, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

“China will make every effort to encourage the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities, play its role, build consensus, and take responsible and meaningful measures as soon as possible to alleviate the current crisis and protect the safety of civilians in order to restore peace,” the ministry’s spokesman, Wang Wenbin, added in a news conference.

China’s statement came at a time when the Israeli occupation is escalating its military attack against the Palestinian citizens in Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, affirmed, according to official media, that “the conflict in the Middle East tops the agenda of the Security Council this November.”

The Chinese newspaper “China Daily” quoted Zhang as saying: “It is necessary to strengthen the ceasefire, stop the fighting, prevent further civilian casualties, in addition to prevent a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe and put an end to the conflict to spread.”
