GAZA, Oct. 29 (YPA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned of the spread of chaos in the Gaza Strip after its warehouses and food aid distribution centers were looted.
The UNRWA said in a statement that “thousands of people stormed several UNRWA warehouses and distribution centers in the central and southern Gaza Strip, in a worrying indication that the civil order has begun to collapse after three weeks of war and an imposed siege on Gaza.”
Meanwhile, the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, condemned on Saturday “an unprecedented escalation in bombing operations” that “undermines humanitarian objectives,” calling again for an immediate ceasefire.
For her part, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric, expressed her “shock at the level of human suffering that is intolerable, considering it as a catastrophic failure that the world should not allow.
“It is unacceptable that civilians do not have a safe place to take refuge in Gaza amid the intense bombardment,” she added. “There is no adequate humanitarian response possible at the moment, with the imposed military blockade.”
