ADEN, Sept. 12 (YPA – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) expressed its concern about the recent arrests that the Aden authorities loyal to the coalition carried out against African migrants in the city of Aden, south of Yemen.
In a news statement on Tuesday, the organization called on the Aden authorities to ensure that the protection, dignity and rights of migrants be preserved.
The IOM stated that the protests and clashes occurred largely because migrants felt frustrated that they were living in miserable conditions and wanted to return to their country.
It announced its continued contact with the authorities, partners and donors to provide the necessary assistance to stranded migrants.
The statement explained that the organization deported nearly 6,000 migrants, including unaccompanied children, to return safely to their homes on voluntary humanitarian return flights, and continues to help the stranded return on a weekly basis.
Last week, several African immigrants were killed and wounded in Aden and Lahj, southern Yemen, as a result of disputes between Ethiopian immigrants from the Oromo and Amhara tribes.
Fierce protests by African immigrants began in the city of Aden, against the deteriorating living conditions, demanding to return to their homeland, according to what the IOM reported.
