Fishermen get missing in Yemen’s territorial waters

HADRAMOUT, July. 12 (YPA) – A Yemeni fisherman survived, while four others are still missing, as their boat sank due to strong winds in the territorial waters in eastern Yemen.

According to navigational sources, five Yemeni fishermen were on a fishing boat on Monday evening, and it capsized as a result of severe seasonal winds in the territorial waters, and one fisherman was rescued by a commercial ship off the coast of Mukalla in Hadramout.

Dozens of Yemeni fishermen drowned in sea water due to their possession of traditional fishing boats that do not resist strong winds and high waves, while others being subjected to detention and maritime piracy by countries in the Horn of Africa.

According to observers, there are more than 100 Yemeni fishermen have been detained by the Eritrean forces, while 183 fishermen were freed until the end of last May after 8-month detention.
