Political activist warns of plot to introduce toxic substance into Yemen

ADEN, June 26 (YPA) – The political activist, Ali Al-Nasi, warned of a plot to introduce a highly toxic substance into Yemen.

Al-Nasi said on Twitter on Monday there is a plan to destroy the Safer refineries in Marib and the port of Mukalla of Hadramout, with highly toxic chemicals being intended to be brought into the country.

He explained that the “Splender” ship, which has anchored in the port of Mukalla for the past 15 days, is carrying MTBE, a chemical substance added to oil refineries.

“This substance will be unloaded in the oil company’s warehouses on the coast of Hadramout, and will be transferred to the Safer refinery in Marib,” Al-Nasi added. “The substance is very dangerous to the refinery and will affect the health of employees and the environment.”

He pointed out that the employees of Aden refineries previously filed a lawsuit in 2008 against the importing company of the substance, in addition to the Ministry of Oil in the pro-coalition government issued a decision not to import the substance.

Al-Nasi called on the Public Prosecutor and the competent authorities in Hadramout to intervene to stop the substance from being downloaded, and demanding that the influential persons be referred to trial.
