FAO warns of flood effects in 11 Yemeni provinces
ROMA, June 22 (YPA) – The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned that about 5,800 people residing in water catchment areas in 11 Yemeni provinces would be affected by floods.
FAO said in a statement on Wednesday that various floods are expected during the next week in Yemen. “Thousands of Yemenis are at risk due to these floods, and these risks are expected to continue due to heavy rains.”
The provinces that are at risk of flooding are Sanaa,Mahweet, Saada, Dhamar, Ibb, Hajjah, Hodeida, Rayma, Lahj, Dhalea, and Abyan, according to the organization.
The statement pointed out that heavy rain fell last week and affected most regions of western and southern Yemen, especially Abyan province.
Since mid-March, the rainy season has begun in Yemen, affecting thousands of families and causing deaths and injuries.
