Coalition-controlled areas witness sharp increase in fuel costs

TAIZ, June 14 (YPA) – The prices of oil derivatives rose suddenly in the areas under the control of the Saudi-led coalition factions in the provinces of Taiz and Hodeida, southwest of Yemen.

Local sources also stated on Wednesday that the price of a liter of gasoline in Mocha city, west of Taiz, surpassed 1,100 riyals, bringing the price of a 20-liter gallon to 22,000 riyals in the last few hours.

The price of one liter in the districts of Al-Khokha and Hays reached 1,050 riyals, while a gallon of 20 liters is sold at a price of 21,000 riyals, according to the sources.

The sources attributed the increase in fuel prices, by 2,300 riyals per gallon, to the deterioration of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies in the coalition-controlled provinces, in which the price of one US dollar reached 1,380 riyals in recent hours.

The southern and eastern areas controlled by the pro-coalition government have been witnessing a sharp rise in food prices amid the lack of basic services including electricity, which makes it impossible for citizens to obtain service from private power stations, especially with the high summer temperature in those areas.
