KHARTOUM, May 23 (YPA) – All foreigners stranded in Sudan have left, while hundreds of Yemenis are still unable to leave, due to the distraction of the “government” loyal to Saudi-led coalition from their suffering despite the passage of more than a month of conflict in Sudan.
According to a new report by “Al Jazeera Net”, there are hundreds of Yemenis stranded in the city of Port Sudan. The so-called “Presidential Leadership Council” does not care about them, despite their appeals, to evacuate them quickly, bring them back home and end their suffering.
Yemeni citizen Abdo al-Samadi, a doctoral student in economic geology and mining, told part of his story, which reflects the state of suffering of Yemenis who are still stranded waiting for the expected relief, as he is currently suffering from swelling in his feet due to a disorder in the salts of body fluids.
“The Yemeni are encouraged by hosting them in a large wedding hall in Port Sudan, but the days passed by gloomy and the wedding hall in which Yemenis have been crowded for about a month turned into a prison for pain, disease and deadly waiting,” he said.
He added, “In Khartoum, we were in a state of fear and terror amid the smell of gunpowder, the hum of bullets, explosions of shelling and cannons, but in Port Sudan we suffer from disease, anxiety and misery, and we feel frustration and bitterness.”
According to the report, the number of Yemenis stranded in Sudan is 50,000, and most of them are still working in a number of states of Sudan.
A report by Medical Emergency Committee on the stranded Yemenis, indicated that three Yemeni women died, two of them in a traffic accident, and the third one dead as a result of her injury that worsened due to poor health conditions and delayed evacuation.
The report indicated that 4 Yemenis are suffering from angina as a result of heart attacks, and a young man in his twenties suffering from a brain attack, while two women suffered a miscarriage due to suffering.
Afeef al-Barashi, head of the Yemeni Students Union in Sudan, said the number of Yemenis currently stranded in Port Sudan stands at 1,200, half of whom are university and graduate students and the other half are women and children.
Speaking to Al Jazeera Net, Al-Barashi said that about 900 Yemenis were evacuated in the past days via Saudi military and civilian ships to the city of Jeddah, while 791 Yemenis were evacuated to Aden and Sanaa via Yemenia Airlines.
He said the delay in evacuation is due to the delay of pro-coalition government in paying the financial costs of Yemenia Airlines or contracting with the Sudanese “Tarco Air”.
