54 people killed during clashes between armed groups, security men in India

SANAA, May 06 (YPA) – At least 54 people have been killed on Saturday and more than 150 injured during clashes between armed groups and security men in India’s northeastern state of Manipur .

The Press Trust of India news agency reported that the state of Manipur witnessed clashes between armed extremist groups and law enforcement officers, as a result of which additional units of the army and police were deployed in the state.

It added that Manipur authorities had ordered army units to use weapons against instigators of unrest and clashes on tribal grounds.

It also confirmed that the army managed to control the situation in two of the ten districts of Manipur, where major clashes took place earlier this week between representatives of Kuki and Meitei tribes.
