Russia announces foiling drone attacks over Kremlin

MOSCOW, May 03 (YPA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin’s office said on Wednesday that Ukraine launched two drone attacks overnight to strike the Kremlin residence of the president.

The aircraft were downed using electronic warfare measures and caused no casualties or damage, the office said in a statement, considering the incident an act of terrorism.

The incident occurred late on Tuesday night, and both unmanned aircraft fell on the grounds of the Kremlin in Moscow, according to the president’s office.

“We consider this a preplanned terrorist action and an attempt against the Russian president,” it added. The incident happened “ahead of Victory Day and the parade on May 9, when foreign guests plan to be present.”

The statement stated that Russia reserves the right to respond in a way, at a location, and at a moment of its choosing.

The president was not in the Kremlin when the drones were shot down, according to Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman. He added that the president was residing in the presidential mansion in the western Moscow Region city of Novo-Ogaryovo.
