US prepares to transfer about 30 Abrams tanks to Ukraine

WORLD, Jan. 26 (YPA)- US sources revealed that the Washington plans this week to transfer of about 30 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine.

CNN quoted informed sources as saying that the administration of US President Joe Biden is finalizing plans to supply Kiev with about 30 tanks.

The sources added: “The decision could be issued as early as this week.” Training the Ukrainian army to use Abrams could take several months.

The move could be part of a diplomatic understanding between the United States and Germany to encourage the latter to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, or to allow other countries such as Poland to supply Kiev with tanks of this type.

Earlier, the Washington Post Journal reported that the United States could move about 100 Stryker armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, meanwhile, Abrams tanks are unlikely to be included in the aid package.

Russia has previously sent a memorandum to NATO countries because of the supply of weapons to Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russian forces.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also stated that “NATO countries are playing with fire” by supplying Ukraine with weapons,

The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov pointed out that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative impact.
