Fisheries Ministry announces opening of coastal shrimp catching season in Red Sea
SANAA, Nov. 28 (YPA) – The Ministry of Fisheries on Monday announced the opening of the season for catching coastal shrimp in the Red Sea region from the Yemeni waters, starting from next Thursday, December 1, until further notice.
The Ministry of Fisheries, in a statement issued today, obligated the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea to monitor the nets used in shrimp fishing, not to fish with string nets, and to adhere to nets with openings referred to in the law, which amount to (3.8) mm to give stocks an opportunity for renewal and sustainability.
According to the statement, fishing and dredging are prohibited in the areas of the creeks and sensitive environments, as they are nursery areas for young shrimp and many marine creatures, and the violators will be punished.
