Sanaa PM: UN, coalition endure responsibility for child leukemia disaster
SANAA, Oct. 17 (YPA) – Prime Minister in Sanaa, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor, held mainly the responsibility of the Saudi-led coalition countries and the United Nations and the Security Council the responsibility for the death of child leukemia patients due to the silence on the siege imposed on the Yemeni people.
During his visit on Monday, along with the Minister of Health, to the Pediatric Leukemia Treatment Center at Kuwait Hospital in Sanaa, bin Habtoor stressed that the issue of the death of a number of children with leukemia is a national disaster par excellence.
Dr. Bin Habtoor expressed his deep condolences to the families of the children who died as a result of a contaminated drug illegally smuggled into the country, noting that his government following up on investigations into this tragedy.
For his part, Health Minister Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakil said: “Laboratory tests showed the presence of high-risk bacterial contamination in the batch of medicine given to children inflicted with leukemia, and investigations being followed up by the highest levels in the country.”
He pointed out that his ministry sent memorandums to the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, who is visiting Yemen, and the representative of the World Health Organization, requesting urgently to provide 14 items that are lacking in the country for the treatment of leukemia.
