SANAA, Oct. 15 (YPA) – Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, praised Qatar’s organization of the 2022 World Cup during his meeting with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar.
Putin, during the meeting, wished the Emir of Qatar success in hosting the World Cup, saying: “I wish you success in hosting this important event, I am sure it will be perfect.”
This came on the sidelines of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (SICA) in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.
Russia, which hosted the last edition of the World Cup, was excluded from the qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar due to the sanctions imposed on the country due to the war in Ukraine.
The 2022 World Cup will start next November, and this is the second time that the tournament will be held in the Asian continent after the 2002 edition in South Korea and Japan.
