Armed clashes renew in Abyan among coalition factions

ABYAN, Sept. 12 (YPA) – A number of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia backed by the UAE were killed and injured in clashes renewed in Al-Mahfad district of Abyan province.

Local informed sources said that confrontations erupted between members of the Security Belt militia and tribal gunmen in the district, believed to be affiliated with Islah, which also left damaged a vehicle in the area.

The sources added that the STC militia continued the process of subjugating Abyan districts to its control after announcing a military operation at the end of last August, during which it took control of the Islah camps in Shakra, Qarn Al-Klasi and Sheikh Salem, all the way to the coastal area of Ahwar east of province.

This came after tribal gunmen, who were accused by the “STC” militia of terrorism, during the past hours, targeted STC’s vehicles in Mudiyah area in the same province with four explosive devices, killing about 6 militia members and wounding 3 others, including the commander of the “103rd Brigade” funded by the UAE.
