Pro-coalition officer assassinated in Ataq

SHABWA, Aug. 31 (YPA) – A commander loyal to the Saudi-led coalition was killed on Wednesday in the city of Ataq, the Shabwa provincial capital.

Local sources said that unnamed gunmen heavily opened fire and killed the former leader of the UAE-funded Shabwani Elite” militia, Abu Bakr Salem Al-Dawli, who also is one of the escorts of the governor Awadh bin al-Wazir al-Awlaki, in Karmoom area of Nisab district, as well as one of his companions.

Shabwa has witnessed security chaos since the UAE militia took control over it and overthrew the former governor, loyal to Islah, Mohammed Saleh bin Adyo, in December of last year.

Through the militias of the “Shabwa Defense” and the “Amaliqa forces backed by the UAE were able to impose its control over the city of Ataq and expel Islah militants from Shabwa, after violent confrontations in the city in early August, which left hundreds dead and wounded.
