UAE-funded militias take over Lawdar city in Abyan

ABYAN, Aug. 31 (YPA) – Militias of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) backed by the UAE on Wednesday took control over several sites belonging to Islah militants in Lawdar district of Abyan province.

Local sources stated that the STC militia coming from Dhalea and Radfan, led by Mukhtar Al-Nubi, deployed in the city of Lawdar, during the past hours, as part of the Emirati military operation called “Arrows of the East” launched last week to control the positions of Islah militants in the province.

They pointed out that dozens of military vehicles entered the city as part of the scenario of handing over the southern provinces to the “STC” militia, which demands the return of Yemen to before national unity was achieved on May 22, 1990, with support and funding from the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

This came after the two “39th and 103rd military Brigades, belonging to the Islah Party, declared their loyalty to the STC earlier in the day.

Last week, the STC militia imposed its control on the coastal city of Shaqra of Abyan, the stronghold of the Islah military leaders since 2019, and expelled the Saeed bin Maili Brigade towards Marib.
