Islah militants target UAE-funded military convoy in Ataq

SHABWA, Aug. 19 (YPA) – The Saudi-backed Islah militants targeted a military convoy of the UAE-funded militia north of Ataq city, the Shabwa provincial capital.

Local sources affirmed that Islah gunmen ambushed the reinforcements of al-Amaliqa forces in Barq al-Laban area, after they bypassed the Ayyad area, the center of Jardan district, which is about 55 km from Ataq.

The sources pointed out that the gunmen from the “21st Mika Brigade, the Ataq axis, and the Special Forces, loyal to Islah, lured al-Amaliqa elements to Jardan area, relying on ambush tactics, which led to heavy losses among the elements.

The confrontations expanded from Ayyda of Jardan area towards the area of the oil fields in Al-Oqla, north of the Arma area, which is managed by the Austrian “OMV” company, after al-Amaliqa forces announced last June that it had taken control of the Al-Oqla oilfields.

This comes after wrong strikes suffered by al-Amaliqa on Wednesday evening, by the UAE warplanes, which led to dozens of deaths and injuries, including leaders.
