TAIZ, Aug. 04 (YPA) – Forces from the 22nd Mechanized Brigade, affiliated with the Islah Party, stormed the judicial complex in Taiz city on Monday in an armed operation aimed at freeing a prisoner, amid unprecedented state of security chaos
According to local human rights sources, the Islah-aligned gunmen surrounded the complex, located near the Al-Murur roundabout in central Taiz, before opening fire on security guards and forcibly entering the premises.
Several guards were injured during the assault, the sources said.
They added that the attackers kidnapped the complex’s security officer, Atef Al-Sufyani, along with one of the guards, after successfully freeing a detainee. Both were taken to an unknown location.
In response, judges, prosecutors, and staff at the judicial complex issued a statement condemning the attack and announced that they had submitted a formal request to the Chief Prosecutor to refer the commander of the 22nd Mechanized Brigade, Mohammad Al-Mahfadi, along with the gunmen involved, to the Saudi-led coalition’s criminal prosecution authority.
The statement also announced that the judges of the complex would suspend their work until their demands to refer commander Al-Mahfadi to the criminal prosecution authority are met.
The raid has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from all people in the province over the actions of the Islah factions funded by the coalition.
