Protesters close exchange companies, shops with chains in Mukalla

HADRAMOUT, Aug. 04 (YPA) – Angry protesters closed, on Monday, a number of exchange companies and shops in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout Governorate, for violating the currency exchange rate, amid an administrative vacuum in the governorate.

Informed sources in the city reported that a popular demonstration that toured the streets of Mukalla closed the exchange companies, because they refused to sell hard currency to citizens.

The sources explained that the protesters closed a number of exchange companies, including the Bin Dole Company and others, on the pretext of violating the exchange rate and not adhering to the pricing set by the bank.

In addition, many business stores were closed with chains in various areas of the city.

Meanwhile, dozens of women from Mukalla demonstrated in the Fuwah area to demand the provision of water, which has been cut off from their homes for the past few days.

Young people in Fuwa blocked the main road to trucks and tankers in the area, demanding the implementation of their demands and the release of dozens of detainees from the prisons of the coalition factions, as the state of popular anger and tension continues for the ninth consecutive day due to the power outage.

Since the start of their popular demonstrations early last week in Mukalla and other coastal and valley cities, the people of Hadramout have been demanding the dismissal of the coalition-affiliated governor, Mabkhout bin Madi, who has been prevented by the Saudi authorities from returning to Hadramout since last April.

They also demand the provision of electricity and water services, and price controls.

Participants in the Hadramout protests accuse officials and leaders of plundering the governorate’s wealth and resources, harnessing them for their personal interests and investments abroad, without implementing sustainable service projects for the people of the governorate.
