Civil Aviation Authority issues decision regarding fees for travel services

SANAA, June.10 (YPA) – The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology in Sanaa issued a decision regarding fees for travel services to protect travelers.

Director General of Air Transport at the Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Mazen Ghanem, said the decision would obligate the travel agencies to pay passenger’s service fees, and the total value of any services provided by travel agencies in order to protect travelers would not exceed 5%.

He affirmed that the government order was in effect before the war of the Saudi-led coalition on Yemen, and reissued with the goal of regulating the relationship between travel agencies and travelers regarding service fees collected by agencies from travelers.

Ghanem pointed out that a number of travelers complained about the high fees for travel services by some travel agencies, which took advantage of the travelers’ ignorance of the prices of tickets and some services such as visas and others, and added exorbitant amounts to the value of those services without any right.

“The government step will limit the manipulation of some travel agencies, and in the event that travel agencies receive any additional sums from travelers in violation of the government order, measures will be taken against these agencies and obligating them to return the sums to the travelers,” he added.

Ghanem stated that “the beneficiary of these fees are the owners of travel agencies in return for the services provided to travelers, which were obtained in an unorganized manner and not, as it was promoted, as levies for the authority or any other party,” noting that the countries of the world are working with such a measure to regulate the travel agency market.”
