SANAA, July 25 (YPA) – Yemen’s Grand Mufti, Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din, addressed a message to religious scholars across the Arab and Islamic world, reminding them of their religious and humanitarian duty toward their besieged and starving brothers in the Gaza Strip.
This came during the million-person march that staged Al-Sabeen Square in Sanaa, which was held under the slogan “We will not tolerate the genocide of Gaza and the violation of the nation and its sanctities.”
Sharaf al-Din praised the stances of the nation’s free scholars who fulfilled their duty and demonstrated the necessity of supporting and assisting the Palestinian people.
“Where is the mercy and compassion for your brothers who are dying of hunger daily while you watch them and do nothing?” he asked, denouncing the inaction of the Arab regimes and their persistence in besieging the Palestinian people, in clear support of the American and Israeli regimes in starving the people in Gaza.
He called on scholars from the countries surrounding Palestine, particularly the Gaza Strip, in a clear reference to religious scholars from Egypt and Jordan, to fulfill their religious and humanitarian duty toward their besieged and starving people in Gaza Strip.
“Scholars must reconsider their positions and activate their role as intellectual and moral leaders who can stir the conscience of the nation and push it toward true faith and effective support,” he added. “The scholars must be at the forefront of defending the nation’s rights, and that their role should not be limited to words but extend to action and humanitarian initiative.”
