Saudi-backed commander survives assassination attempt in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, July 25 (YPA) – A senior commander in the Saudi-backed “Hadramout Tribal Alliance ” survived an assassination attempt on Friday after leaving Friday prayers at Alib Mosque Complex in the district of Ghayl Bin Yamin, local sources reported.

In an official statement, the alliance confirmed that Brigadier General Al-Joweid Salmeen Ba Rasheed, commander of the First Brigade, was the target of a “treacherous” attack that resulted in the death of one of his bodyguards.

An official in the Hadramout Protection Forces, also affiliated with the alliance, said the assailants opened heavy fire on Ba Rasheed as he left the mosque.

He explained that forces from the First Brigade conducted a wide-scale deployment and sealed off the area in search of the attacker, amid accusations that UAE-backed leaders were behind the operation.

According to the same source, tribal forces apprehended a suspect believed to be involved in the attack and handed him over to the local security authorities in Ghayl Bin Yamin district for further investigation.
