British newspaper reporter kidnapped after being attacked in Marib

SANAA, June. 08 (YPA) – A photographer and reporter for the British newspaper, The Independent, Hisham al-Shubaily, was kidnapped on Tuesday after being attacked and beaten by the Saud-led coalition forces in the oil-rich city of Marib, east of Yemen.

Al-Shubaili confirmed, on Facebook, that a police patrol affiliated with the Saudi-backed Islah militia attacked him and his car after he photographed the long queues of cars in front of one of the oil derivatives stations at the entrance to the city.

“When I returned to the car, I was surprised by a number of soldiers surrounding my car and insulting and beating me, and breaking my car, amid my astonishment at these irresponsible behavior, he added.

Al-Shubaili said that the police also confiscated his mobile phone and erased all photos, with data, and videos.

“I managed to escape from the security points with the help of my colleagues,” he added.
Al-Shubaili held the local and security authorities and the coalition in the city of Marib full responsible for his safety.
