Moscow: Russia’s attack on neighboring countries is a crazy and baseless idea

SANAA, Feb. 08 (YPA) – Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Pankin said on Tuesday that Russia’s announcement of Russia’s plans to attack neighboring countries is a crazy, baseless idea.

“In general, it has long been clear that even if there are no reasons to apply this kind of restrictions to Russia, they will be found, or rather invented. As we have already confirmed, the idea of an attack on neighbouring countries is crazy and baseless ,” he told the media.

Western countries, particularly the United States, have intensified strike weapons in recent weeks; this comes at a time when Kiev authorities and the US administration claim that Russia is massing large forces on Ukraine’s borders, “in preparation for a new invasion.”

Russia asserts that it has no intention of launching aggression against Ukraine; all reports of this are false, intended to escalate tension in the region and fuel anti-Russian rhetoric.

President Putin warned today that European countries would be at war with Russia if Ukraine joined NATO and if it tried to regain control of Crimea by military means.

In such a war, there will be no victorious side, he added.

He noted that talk of Russia’s violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity was “incorrect”, because Crimea’s accession to Russia took place after the forcible overthrow of power in Ukraine, and Russia was obliged to protect the Crimean population after the “coup” in Ukraine.
