EU Parliament president David Sassoli dies, aged 65

SANAA, Jan. 11 (YPA) – President of the European Parliament David Sassoli has died at the age of 65 after being seriously ill in hospital for more than two weeks.

His spokesman Roberto Cuillo confirmed his death on Twitter, saying that the 65-year-old Italian diplomat had been in a serious condition in hospital for more than two weeks  because of a serious complication due to a dysfunction of the immune system.

“David Sassoli died at 1.15 am on January 11th in Aviano, Italy, where he was taken to hospital,”  Cuillo said, adding that “the date and location of the funeral will be announced in the next few hours,” AFP reported.
