France appoints its first female ambassador to Syria since 2012

PARIS, Dec. 04 (YPA) – French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a presidential decree appointing French Foreign Affairs Adviser Brigitte Cormy as ambassador to Syria.

The text of the decree, which was published in the French Official Gazette, on December 2, did not provide additional details about the ambassador’s transfer to Syria or not.

France severed its relationship with Syria in 2012, and closed its embassy in Damascus at the time, during the era of former President Nicolas Sarkozy.

In August 2018, France announced the appointment of the current ambassador to Iran, François Senemo, as the personal representative of the President of the Republic to Syria.
