Saudi Arabia reveals progress of talks with Iran

SANAA, Oct. 31 (YPA) – Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said the talks between the kingdom and Iran were “friendly”, while stressing that no significant progress has been made so far.

“We have had four rounds of talks so far. The talks are friendly but still in an exploratory context. We still hope that it will make tangible progress… But so far, we have not made enough progress to be optimistic.”

Asked if another round of talks had been decided, he said that nothing had been identified, stating “But we are open to continuing.”

Saudi Arabia and Iran confirmed that they had held four rounds of talks in Baghdad in the past months, which touched on the normalization of relations between the two countries six years ago, as well as the discussion of regional issues such as Yemen and Lebanon.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian said the discussions were “on track,” saying, “We have achieved results and agreements, but we still need more dialogue.”
