SANAA, Oct. 12 (YPA) – The US authorities announced, on Tuesday, that an employee of a post office in Memphis, the largest city in the state of Tennessee (southeast of the United States), shot two of his colleagues before he committed suicide by shooting himself.
The Postal Service said in a statement that “postal services are investigating a shooting incident earlier in the day” in Memphis.
“Three employees have died. There is no longer a threat,” the statement added.
For her part, Lisa-Ann Kolb, a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Memphis, said during a press conference that the shooter was one of the three employees who died and apparently committed suicide, indicating that an investigation was opened into the incident.
In its statement, the US Post expressed its “deep sadness at this tragedy.”
Shootings and other acts of gun violence are a major problem in the United States, exacerbated, according to activists, by the proliferation of guns and the laxity of gun ownership laws.
