SANAA, Sept. 22 (YPA) – Iran announced that its Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, participated on Tuesday, in a high-level international meeting with representatives of a number of Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed in a statement the need to establish local and regional security mechanisms with the goal of ensuring security and stability in the region.
The statement noted that any foreign presence or interference in the region contradicts the goals of establishing peace and security and ensuring the independence and sovereignty of regional countries.
Abdollahian pointed out that the new Iranian government would give priority to strengthening and developing relations with neighboring countries, expressing his hope that those meetings will open a new chapter of cooperation and partnership between the countries and peoples of the region.”
He affirmed that the meeting, which was held at the residence of the Iraqi ambassador in New York, included such as foreign ministers and senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and France, in addition to the European Union High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the Secretary-General of the University of Arab countries Ahmed Aboul Gheit and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Falah M. Al-Hajraf.
