Pro-coalition Hadramout governor issues decision to suppress “protests”
HADRAMOUT, Sept. 17 (YPA) – The local authorities loyal to Saudi-led coalition in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, on Thursday imposed a curfew after a popular uprising demanding the departure of the coalition forces and “Hadi’s government” from the province.
Hadramout’s governor appointed by the coalition, Faraj Al-Bahsani, issued a decision to impose a partial curfew from 8 pm until 6 am, from today, Thursday, until further notice.
The pro-coalition authorities justified the decision by saying that it came “due to the riots, vandalism and chaos that the province is going through,” describing the protesters as “intrusive elements.”
On the other hand, the Education Office in Mukalla city, the capital of Hadramout, has taken a decision to suspend studies in all schools for a period of one week, as of next Sunday.
Since the beginning of this week, several cities of Hadramout, including Mukalla, Shiehr, Tarim, and Ghail Bawazir, have witnessed protests and rallies condemning the deteriorating living conditions and frequent power cuts, which led to the death of young Salem Buqshan.
Observers considered that the curfew aimed at suppressing protesters against the deterioration of services.
