STC’s President threatens to announce separation

ADEN, Sept. 16 (YPA) – President of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), Aidarous al-Zubaidi, on Thursday threatened with the declaration of secession in a maneuver that aims to pressure Saudi Arabia and Hadi’s government to save him.

This comes at a time when the STC is facing a crisis that afflicts its future, in light of the recent advance of Sanaa forces and the demonstrations that beset it in its stronghold in Aden province.

Al-Zubaidi, in his televised speech broadcast by media outlets loyal to him late on Wednesday evening, ignored the call for the return of the equal government, or even the reference to the Saudi-led coalition.

He was satisfied with calling his militias to declare general mobilization and raise combat readiness, in a step described as paving the way for escalatory steps against the coalition and the Saudi-backed government, such as the declaration of secession.
