SANAA, Aug. 23 (YPA) – The Japanese government announced that it will send a military plane to Afghanistan later on Monday to bring back its nationals.
More military transport planes are expected to be sent to Afghanistan not only to bring back Japanese citizens, but also Afghans who work in the Japanese embassy or with Japanese missions, Katsunobu Kato, chief spokesperson for the Japanese government, said at a press conference on Monday.
“This relocation is an urgent humanitarian measure to evacuate our citizens in such an exceptional situation,” Kato said.
Several countries sent planes to bring back their citizens and some Afghans, after the United States and other foreign countries, including Britain, sent several thousand troops to manage the evacuations from Kabul airport.
Kato did not say how many people Japan plans to evacuate.
