ICRC leaving Yemen, accusing all parties of using its staff as war hostages

SANAA, June 8 (YPA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has suspended its activities in Yemen and started withdrawing 71 employees from all the cities of Yemen.

The ICRC’s  decision was due to all the parties fighting in Yemen are dealing with their employees as hostages of war.

The ICRC said that all parties held full responsibility for the safety of its employees and stop its humanitarian work, which lasted more than 50 years.

The ICRC said it could only continue its operations in Yemen unless it had secured sufficient guarantees from all parties to the conflict.

On April 21 , one of ICRC employees was killed when an unknown gunman opened fire on his car in the southern city of Taiz.
