Haitian President killed in his private residence by assailants

SANAA, Jul. 07 (YPA) – The Haitian government announced on Wednesday that the President of the Republic, Jovenel Moise, was assassinated last night as a result of an armed attack on his private residence of the president of the republic.

Acting Prime Minister Claude Joseph affirmed in a statement that the President Moise was fatally wounded by unidentified gunmen who infiltrated his private residence, noting that the first lady, Martin Moise, was taken to hospital after the accident.

The Haitian Prime Minister condemned the assassination, stressing that the police and other government agencies keep control of the situation.

Moise, 53, assumed the presidency of Haiti in 2017, after victory of the presidential elections that took place in 2015 and then in the re-election in 2016, due to the failure of the winning candidate’s opponent to recognize the results of the vote.

The murdered president had postponed the constitutional referendum, which was to be carried out in last June, due to the repercussions of the “Corona” crisis.
