SANAA, Jun. 26 (YPA) – The Director of the Engineering Department in the Ethiopian Ministry of Defense, General Buta Bachata Debele, said on Friday that his country is ready for the scenario of a “military solution” to the issue of the Renaissance Dam with Egypt and Sudan, although it does not seek it.
In an interview with “RT”, Debele responded to a question about the possibility of solving the Renaissance Dam crisis militarily, saying: “For my country, the water file should not be a cause for war, and therefore, the solution cannot be military, and the best way is to discuss through the union.” African”.
He added, “But the Egyptian side does not want to solve the problem through negotiations, saying that they “come for discussion and reject all proposals, and from my point of view the best solution is negotiations.”
He continued, “the Egyptians will not be able to solve the problem militarily, and they will not try to attack the dam, but even if they attack it, they will not be able to solve the problem or destroy the dam, because it cannot be destroyed by the bombs of combat aircraft, and they know that the dam is solid.”
Debele’s statements come after the media revealed that the Egyptian Chief of Staff, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Farid Hegazy, visited Sudan and Congo at the head of a high-ranking military delegation, and that the file of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam was strongly present in those visits.
