UN investigation: French army was involved in killing 19 civilians in Mali in January

SANAA, March 30 (YPA) – An investigation carried by the Human Rights Division of the United Nations Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in partnership with the United Nations Forensic Police, into the events that took place on January 3 near Ponte, central Mali, confirmed that a French air strike killed 19 civilians who had gathered to attend a party wedding, and Paris had announced earlier that the dead were jihadists.

A United Nations investigation reported that an air strike by the French army in Mali in January killed 19 civilians who had gathered to attend a wedding, and that its victims were not only jihadists, as Paris had previously confirmed, according to a report seen by Agence France-Presse.

At the end of the investigation conducted by the Human Rights Division of the United Nations Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) with the support of the United Nations forensic police, regarding the events that took place on January 3 near Ponte, in central Mali, the investigation summary stated that the UN mission “Able to confirm the holding of a wedding ceremony that gathered at the site of the strike about 100 civilians, including five armed men believed to be from the Sarama Brigade.”
